Aligi Sassu (Milan 1912 – Pollença 2000) was a central figure in twentieth-century European art: from his Futurist beginnings, still a boy, to the «red men», from the cafés and streets of Milan to horses and mythology, he told the life of his time through colour.
With his wife, the Colombian singer Helenita Olivares, he chose the City of Lugano to preserve an important part of his legacy. He donated more than three hundred works, from the 1920s to the 1990s, to the Fondazione Aligi Sassu e Helenita Olivares, where they can now be studied and admired.
