Erich Lindenberg (1938–2006) was a German painter who worked in Munich and Berlin, painting figures, spaces and shadows on the verge of disappearing. After his sudden death, the painter Mareen Koch, his fellow student at the Munich Academy, kept a promise made when they were young: to look after his work.
In 2008, in agreement with the artist's brother, the musician Udo Lindenberg, the Fondazione d'arte Erich Lindenberg was born. Since 2012 it has been based in the Museo Villa Pia in Porza, near Lugano, where his painting is in dialogue with exhibitions of contemporary artists, mostly from the region.
