«L'arte è una fatica inutile» (Art is a useless labour) is a project that grew up around a statue: Ercole, a large wooden sculpture, two metres ten high, by Giovanni Maria Franzosini, now in the Civico Museo Parisi-Valle in Maccagno, on Lake Maggiore.
Around the hero of the twelve labours a community of artists, curators, restorers, thinkers, photographers and musicians has gathered, accompanying the life of the work and its restoration with meetings, interventions and reflections. One question guides them all: what is art for, if not to labour together?
