Al Fadhil is a Swiss artist of Iraqi origin, born in 1955. He trained at the Institute of Fine Arts in Baghdad and then at the Academy of Fine Arts in Florence; today he lives and works in Balerna, in Ticino.
His work moves freely between painting, objects, photography, video and performance. Two cultures, the Middle Eastern one of his origins and the European one of his adult life, meet in his works, which often use everyday materials and strong symbols, such as gold, to reflect on power, money and identity.
