In Capriasca and Val Colla, valleys north of Lugano, the memory of a territory lives on in family photographs and in the stories of the elderly. The Archivio audiovisivo di Capriasca e Val Colla collects them, safeguards them and gives them back to the community: more than 11,500 images and 150 hours of interviews.
It all began in 2000 with a project of the Tesserete secondary school, when pupils looked for old photos among relatives and neighbours. Today the archive is recognised by the Canton of Ticino as a regional ethnographic museum: festivals, trades, emigration, school and rural life tell more than a century of local history.
