The Foundation
The Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro was founded on 7 April 1995 at the wish of Arnaldo Pomodoro, to ensure the proper preservation of and information on all his works and to promote research and discussion on the most important themes and figures of the contemporary avant-garde.
It looks after and manages the artist's Archive, which documents his work and life, and acts according to Pomodoro's wish to create a «House of sculpture»: a place open to rereading twentieth-century art and to the creativity of young artists.
The archive
The archive gathers the entire body of materials that accompanied and marked Arnaldo Pomodoro's work and activity, and documents his creative path in its national and international relations with movements, institutions and figures of art and culture.
At Arnaldo Pomodoro's wish, it was built up over time by his long-standing staff of collaborators, following his work step by step through its various phases and fields of research.
Today it is a structured and recognised work in progress, a living tool for knowing, understanding and cataloguing the artist's works and, at the same time, a source of information and data on the artistic and cultural history of the second half of the twentieth century in Italy.

The archive and the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro (FAP) are two autonomous but closely interconnected entities. From the start the FAP has looked after the archive, communicating and promoting it externally and connecting it with the public. For some years now it has managed it directly. In recent years the work has developed, on the one hand, in the search for suitable ways of preserving the different materials and, on the other, in a constant relationship with other archives and foundations to exchange documents and information and to compare their experiences of shared problems.
Varied contents
The breadth of the archive reflects the vastness of Pomodoro's artistic practice: not only sculpture, but also prints, multiples, drawings, jewellery, design studies, theatre sets and applied arts. His handwritten notes and manuscripts, correspondence with artists and cultural figures, the collection of press cuttings and films are also preserved and digitised.
The library holds about 10,000 volumes and the complete collection of the artist's exhibition catalogues: about 150 solo and 500 group exhibitions.
The online catalogue raisonné
Ten years after the printed Catalogo ragionato della scultura (Skira, 2007), the archiving of Pomodoro's entire work has become an ongoing project which, starting from sculpture, documents every aspect of his activity. The data gathered by the archive are intended for an online publication that can be continually updated, searched by different keys and rich in photographic and bibliographic documentation.
What OFFICINEBIT.CH did
The management system of the archive and the Foundation, in Claris FileMaker, tailored to a many-sided artist: the sculptures with their casts, each with its own collecting history; the library; the Foundation's collection.
The website with the online catalogue raisonné, linked to the management system: selected data flow from the management system to the website, which can be consulted on computers and smartphones.
